Performs daily collection and processing of laboratory hazardous wastes and daily maintenance of hazardous chemical inventory database.  Assists with the lab safety audit and fire and life safety programs.

Responsibilities

  • Collect chemical and radioactive waste on a daily basis.
  • Segregate waste into hazard classes and package for off-site disposal.
  • Monitor and rotate radioactive waste for decay. Survey and dispose of radioactive waste.
  • Check chemicals into an inventory database daily. Rinse, dispose and delete empty bottles from inventory.
  • Conduct laboratory safety audits and hazardous waste compliance inspections.
  • Maintain hazardous waste storage facility and inventory of hazardous waste and spill supplies.
  • Respond to chemical spills as required.
  • Maintain first aid kits as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in a technical field directly related to the position or a high school diploma and a minimum of 3 years of progressive experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or closely related scientific field with college level laboratory experience.
  • Current RCRA, DOT and 24 hour HAZWOPER certifications.
  • Ability to lift 50 pound / 5 gallon carboys and move 55 gallon drums using a drum dolly.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including respirators.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $28.36 to $40.37 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
