Statistical Programmer I

The Hutchinson Institute for Cancer Outcomes Research (HICOR) is a multi-disciplinary research institute whose mission is to reduce the human and economic burden of cancer. HICOR faculty conduct research in comparative effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, quality of care, health care delivery, health outcomes, and health policy, with an eye toward supporting public and private decision making to maximize health value under resource constraints.

 

HICOR is seeking a full-time Statistical Programmer I to contribute to data management and analyses for the broad variety of research projects conducted by HICOR.

This position performs all phases of programming including analyses, data cleaning, manipulation, and management, infrastructure design, coding, testing, and implementing programs for projects ranging from routine to complex. The Statistical Programmer is expected to communicate effectively with other team members and be responsive to the needs of HICOR investigators and staff as well as external agencies and collaborators as required.

Support data-related study activities:

• Extracting, cleaning, manipulating, and managing data files for analysis
• Maintain good documentation and descriptions of data cleaning process and all datasets
• Writing statistical programs using SAS per requests from HICOR investigators and staff as well as external agencies and collaborators
• Develop systems, methods, and algorithms for processing, analyzing, and visualizing data
• Assist with the development of abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations

Communicate clearly with scientific and other staff:

• Maintain ongoing contact with project team to ensure timely delivery of data for a variety of projects and analyses
• Serve as a reference resource to internal and external collaborators with data questions

Maintain high data quality and security standard:

• Participate in meetings regarding data quality assurance and analysis.
• Monitor adherence to data collection and storage protocols
• Help develop and follow standard procedures and conventions for data management, information security, regulatory compliance, and programming
• Perform routine audits to ensure quality of the data and integrity of databases
• Participate in reviews of code, security, and standard operating procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of professional experience in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science, Informatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Public Health or a related field OR Master’s degree in these fields.
• At least one project experience (or full-time academic/professional experience) in Python or R
• Proficiency with basic Linux system operations
• Experience in processing large-scale datasets OR proven ability to rapidly learn new tools and concepts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in programming support of scientific research
• Knowledge of healthcare systems, medical coding, and claims data
• Able to write documentation for programs, systems, and databases
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical staff/collaborators

The hourly pay range for this position is from $36.85 to $55.26 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
