The Boonyaratanakornkit Laboratory within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division is recruiting a Research Technician I/II to perform lab experiments studying antibodies and B cells against respiratory viruses. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in virology and molecular biology and experience working with rodents.

Responsibilities

Research Technician I:

  • Standard assays such as PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, transfections, cell line maintenance, ELISA’s, flow cytometry
  • Viral production, purification, and neutralization assays
  • Rodent handling, viral challenge, drug treatment, anesthesia, in vivo imaging, and tissue dissection
  • Collect and analyze data and maintain an organized and regularly updated lab notebook
  • Write up an experiment plan, perform and lead experiments, assist in analysis, and provide a report with data interpretation
  • Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects
  • Identify methodological problems in research protocols and implement modifications to optimize experimental results
  • Prepare and present written and oral progress reports concerning studies including background, results, and interpretation of data
  • May conduct literature reviews to assist in determining the most suitable methods to be used in research
  • May perform statistical analyses, write computer programs, or manage research data base
  • Other duties as assigned

Research Technician II:

  • All Research Technician I responsibilities but with a higher level of independent work

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Research Technician I:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills

Research Technician II:

All minimum qualifications of the Research Technician I, plus:

  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS degree in microbiology, immunology, virology, biotechnology or other similar areas of focus
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in virology and molecular biology
  • The technician must show initiative, willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and be a team player
  • Willing to work with biohazardous/infectious agents, human specimens, and rodent colonies under carefully controlled conditions.
  • Excellent and meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position, as are good communication, responsiveness to feedback, and organizational skills
  • Flexible and willing to work some evenings and weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive experiments

Research Technician I: The hourly pay range for this position is from $23.33 to $33.21 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  

Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.01 to $38.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

 

This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship at this time.
