Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Maintains and supports the database systems and data warehouses. Handles day-to-day maintenance and administration tasks such as installations, upgrades, configurations, backup, recovery and troubleshooting.  May also be involved in capacity planning, performance tuning and light development work.


This is an intermediate level position that works on moderately complex projects and assignments under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgement and decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain and decommission database servers, databases, and customized applications. This includes upgrades, patching and migrations
  • Fulfill day-to-day operational tasks associated with database and application support
  • Troubleshoot issues with database platforms, databases, and applications
  • Participate in hardware/software evaluations for databases servers, database platforms, and customer and enterprise applications
  • Monitor and report on database and application usage and availability; remove/delete old or obsolete files/resources to ensure systems function properly
  • Control and limit database access in compliance with data security policies and best practices to maintain data integrity
  • Modify and monitor scripts to perform ETL (extract, transform and load)
  • Monitor database servers and queries for high performance
  • Participate in software evaluations
  • Ensure technical documentation and diagrams remain current and accurate
  • Comply with departmental processes, such as change management, problem management or incident management
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of SQL and server administration
  • Analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Competent use of desktop applications
  • Other department-determined skills or experience may be required

The hourly pay range for this position is from $47.83 to $75.59 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
