The Thomas lab in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division is seeking a Research Lab Manager.

 

This position will be responsible for maintaining lab budgets, orders, invoicing, inventory, and common lab workflows. The Lab Manager will work in close collaboration with the Scientific Director to ensure the overall efficient and compliant function of the lab, including reviewing necessary protocol applications, and ensuring all relevant regulations are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out laboratory experiments using various existing, modified or newly developed techniques.
  • Set up protocols; assist in developing new lab techniques as needed.
  • Identify experimental data pertinent to the problem; process, organize & summarize data; report experimental results as necessary.
  • Assist in drafting sections of research manuscripts.
  • Provide basic lab operation support including equipment maintenance/purchasing. Monitor inventory levels/order lab supplies as needed. Perform calibration/instrument upkeep. Troubleshoot instrument performance/equipment issues.
  • Manage animal colonies.
  • Maintain lab budgets and provide regular reports on spending and income flows.
  • Provide guidance to other employees.
  • File protocol amendments and manage other compliance needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Three to five years’ progressive experience in a research laboratory or a related setting.
  • Two to three years' experience in managing an immunology and infection focused experimental biology lab.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate degree.
  • Experience leading and supporting research experiments.
  • Experience in guiding and training other laboratory personnel.
  • Experience in animal colony maintenance, molecular and cellular biology, immune assays including flow cytometry, and tumor cell biology.
  • High degree of administrative and organizational skills.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $91,333 to $136,968, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
