The Thomas lab in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division is seeking a Director of Computational Sciences to lead a program in immune repertoire profiling, decoding, and analysis.

The individual will manage multiple individuals at various ranks, providing support a) sample selection and study design, b) experimental protocols for data generation, and c) data analysis specifically for lymphocyte TCR and BCR repertoire sequencing. Studies will be focused on primary human samples derived from blood or tissues in individuals with characterized infection or tumor histories. Using a combination of bioinformatic and computational approaches, we will integrate these data with other data and metadata obtained from the sample and individuals, including tumor mutation profiles, infection histories, serology, and other high resolution immune profiling.  In addition to these core objectives, we will include analysis of valuable and clinically relevant sample sets such as HCT patients experiencing GVH, and aplastic anemia subjects.

This position leads an interdisciplinary project team to develop and optimize novel TCR/BCR repertoire sequencing technologies and data analysis strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on immune repertoire decoding and analysis.
  • Propose innovative technologies and processes for immune profiling of intra-tumoral lymphocytes, tissue lymphocytes, and other primary samples from diverse human disease states and oversee development, implementation and adoption of these technologies by the project team.
  • Collaborate with key leaders at Fred Hutch to ensure project success.
  • Oversee systems of governance, monitoring, review and control processes in the repertoire profiling efforts of the lab.
  • Manage the overall budget, interaction with vendors and equipment purchase.
  • Direct team management processes, including goal setting, performance, development and engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in life science or computational biology field.
  • 10+ years of experience in immune repertoire analysis, strong publication record, experience in managing mid-large teams on data science projects/processes.

  • Driven individual capable of creative independent research, as demonstrated by first author publication(s) and presentations.
  • Exceptional multi-tasking and project management skills.
  • Superior written communication skills, as demonstrated by successful applications for external funding.
  • Extensive experience in immune repertoire data analysis, bioinformatics algorithms and software development.
  • Deep understanding of molecular biology protocols for TCR/BCR library preparation and sequencing.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $94,037 to $212,035, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
