Research Assistant

The part-time Research Assistants (approximately 10 hours per week) will work under the supervision of Principal Investigators Heather Greenlee, ND, PhD at Fred Hutch Cancer Center and Amanda Fretts, PhD at the University of Washington School of Public Health to assist in the coordination of activities for an Andy Hill CARE fund-supported project. The research is to work in partership with American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities throughout WA state (both rural and urban) to identify existing tribal resources and programs and develop and/or tailor existing nutrition education resources focused on cancer prevention and survivorship for AI/AN in WA.

 

The Research Assistants will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day research activities to develop and implement the study, including developing data collection instruments, collecting and managing data, The positions require a high level of organization, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. The candidates who fill these positions will work closely with several research team members and community partners to coordinate and support the project.

The Research Assistants will be responsible for the day to day research activities necessary to support the project. Specifically, with the collaboration and guidance of investigators and staff, tasks may include:

 

Research Tasks:

• Conduct literature reviews and background research on nutrition and cancer education programs for tribal communities in Washington state.
• Assist with the development of the study manuals of operations
• Assist with the design and preparation study materials and forms, including consent and recruitment materials, intervention materials, and data collection instruments and other assessment materials
• Use research management systems (such as RedCap) and other study databases to monitor and manage collected data and perform quality control checks to ensure data quality
• Assist with study recruitment and consenting
• Conduct surveys and/or qualitative interviews
• Manage data and audio files of research interviews at all steps--from transcription and coding through data analysis.
• Assist with qualitative data analysis
• Identify and recruit potential Community Advisory Board members
• Contribute to manuscript and abstract preparation and submission

 

Project Management Tasks:

• Manage and coordinate study data collection timelines
• Collaborate with all key partners: maintain open, timely, and accurate communication with all internal and external partners about developments, changes, and/or new directions and deliverables; communicate priorities, goals, and resources

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of qualitative research methods
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with people from various backgrounds
• Demonstrated commitment and familiarity working with AI/AN populations
• Excellent organizational skills, including independently managing multiple tasks while ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and quality results
• Strong project management skills
• Experience developing study materials
• Ability to self-motivate and work independently as part of a team with limited supervision
• Excellent writing and communication skills, particularly in the context of collaborating with and coordinating a variety of partners
• Experience conducting research interviews
• Skills in REDCap or other software for data capture and organization
• Experience with Atlas.ti, Dedoose or comparable qualitative analysis software

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $48.09 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
