The Subramaniam Lab is seeking a Research Tech I or II (depending on experience) to support cutting-edge research investigating mechanisms of human mRNA translation. The position will focus on supporting projects using ReLiC, our high throughput CRISPR screening approach to identify regulators of translation and other RNA metabolic processes in human cells (Nugent et al. Nature Methods 2025). The Research Tech will be responsible for performing bench-level experiments, mammalian cell culture, high-throughput sequencing library preparation, data analysis, and assisting with manuscript preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mammalian cell culture and genome engineering experiments to support ReLiC screening projects
  • Prepare DNA libraries for high-throughput sequencing
  • Conduct biochemical experiments to isolate and analyze human ribosomes
  • Assist with high-throughput sequencing data analysis using computational tools
  • Maintain laboratory databases and ensure accurate data recording and verification
  • Identify methodological problems in research protocols and implement modifications to optimize experimental results
  • Prepare written progress reports and assist with figure preparation for publications
  • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining optimal experimental methods
  • Assist in the design of experiments and be responsible for the performance of individual research projects

Qualifications

Research Technician I:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills

 

Research Technician II:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Experience with plasmid cloning
  • Microscopy experience
  • Basic programming experience
  • Independent research experience in molecular biology outside of laboratory coursework
  • Self-motivation, ability to work independently, time management, self-reliance, and task completion strategies


Research Technician I: The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.87 to $32.56 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. 

Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  

 

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
