The Naresh Lab in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division at Fred Hutch is seeking enthusiastic and creative individuals who are interested in conducting translational research that will ultimately lead to improved patient care. The Naresh Lab primarily focus on translational research of lymphomas and other blood cancers. The laboratory explores the biology of lymphomas and other blood cancers by understanding the alterations in gene/protein expression of the tumor cells and the microenvironment, and via other changes to the genome.

 

The Research Technician II will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator or higher-level laboratory personnel. Uses discretion and judgment in the performance of duties. Responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries.

Responsibilities

Performs the duties of the Research Technician I position plus:

  • Identify methodological problems in research protocol and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.
  • To be able to standardize, set up, run and monitor tissue-based investigations such as immunohistochemistry, multiplex (6-7) color fluorescent immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, RNAscope.
  • To be able to perform whole slide imaging / digital pathology for brightfield microscopy and multiplex fluorescent imaging.
  • Handling paraffin blocks and coordinating the preparation of tissue microarrays.
  • Ability to perform image analysis using tools such as HALO and QuPath.
  • Record and analyze experimental data accurately. Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, observations, and results.
  • Manage research database and use of software tools in research, such as Excel, SPSS, R, etc.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy for research reports.
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks like preparing and maintaining samples and reagents.
  • Ordering reagents and other laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment and instruments. Troubleshoot any issues with machinery or technical systems.
  • Monitor site audits and inspections, ensuring that data and processes are in line with regulatory standards.
  • Good knowledge and experience in genomic and transcriptomic technologies, and the ability to work with human tissue samples is welcome; may be responsible for the performance of individual research Experience in bioinformatics is welcome.
  • Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data.
  • Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining the most suitable methods to be used in
  • Assist in the publication of results by proofreading, editing, and contributing
  • Assist in supervising students.
  • Collaborate with team members and report findings to PI.
  • May write computer programs.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience .
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master's degree in a scientific discipline can substitute for 1 year of post-graduation lab experience
  • Good organization and teamwork skills and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
