The Systems Engineer IV - Citrix is a technical leader within the Systems Engineering - Client Engineering team, with a dedicated focus on Citrix technologies. This role is responsible for resolving complex Citrix-related issues, mentoring less experienced team members, and providing technical guidance and organizational support specifically for our Citrix environment. The Systems Engineer IV - Citrix is expected to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of Citrix infrastructure systems that support core organizational functions, including virtual desktops and application delivery.


The Systems Engineer IV - Citrix is responsible for evaluating Citrix systems and their interdependency with other infrastructure components, determining future requirements, and optimizing current Citrix deployments. This includes monitoring, tuning, and performing gap analyses to ensure peak performance and reliability of Citrix services. As the technical lead, this role applies proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve complex Citrix-related problems, maximizing the benefit of IT systems investments and minimizing service interruptions.

 

This role evaluates, designs, plans, and leads the implementation of large-scale Citrix solutions, including architecture for new environments, upgrades, and modernization initiatives. Additionally, provides technical leadership and training to lower-level systems engineers, and is responsible for continuous improvement of Citrix infrastructure processes, standards, and best practices.

 

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely. Evening and/or weekend work may occasionally be required. 

 

Responsibilities

May perform some or all of the following responsibilities:

  • Fulfill day-to-day operational tasks associated with maintaining Citrix infrastructure systems and related technologies, including Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), StoreFront, Delivery Controllers, and Citrix Cloud.
  • Serve as technical lead or team member for large, complex Citrix-related projects to provide new or improved virtual desktop and application delivery services.
  • Install/build, configure, administer, and decommission Citrix infrastructure systems, including upgrades, patching, image lifecycle management, and FlexApp packaging (or other similar tool) for application delivery.
  • Build and document Citrix-specific processes for maintenance and optimization that can be carried out by other engineering or support teams.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for mission-critical Citrix infrastructure systems on a rotating basis.
  • Create, modify, and delete user access and profiles using account management tools integrated with Citrix and Liquidware ProfileUnity for dynamic user environment management.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for Citrix environments, including escalation and resolution of issues involving IGEL thin clients, Imprivata integrations, and virtual desktop sessions.
  • Monitor and report on Citrix environment usage, capacity, and availability. Set appropriate thresholds and alerting mechanisms for proactive response and system health.
  • Respond to Citrix-related incidents and service outages to restore access and functionality in a timely manner. Fulfill service requests efficiently while ensuring supportability.
  • Monitor and tune Citrix environments for optimal performance, including session optimization, resource utilization, and user experience.
  • Control and limit system access in compliance with security policies and Citrix best practices to maintain system integrity and protect sensitive data.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and diagrams specific to the Citrix ecosystem, including infrastructure topology, policy configurations, and automation workflows.
  • Collaborate with IT staff and end users to resolve Citrix-related challenges, ensuring seamless application delivery and virtual desktop experience.
  • Lead hardware/software evaluation for Citrix infrastructure and associated technologies such as FlexApp, Liquidware, IGEL, and Imprivata.
  • Participate in and present at Citrix Design Reviews to ensure scalable, secure, and supportable solutions.
  • Lead and improve departmental processes such as change management, incident management, and problem management for Citrix systems.
  • Perform assigned tasks to improve Citrix-related processes and meet departmental performance and reliability goals.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure issues within the Citrix stack, including hypervisor-level dependencies and profile-related delays.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve operational efficiencies in the Citrix platform.
  • Eliminate manual Citrix tasks via configuration management tools, PowerShell automation, and Citrix Cloud APIs.
  • Design, plan, build, and lead Citrix system and disaster recovery tests.
  • Train and excel in expertise of Citrix technologies, becoming a subject matter expert in areas such as FlexApp packaging, ProfileUnity user environment management, and IGEL OS configuration.
  • Mentor entry and intermediate-level engineers on Citrix best practices, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Perform complex Citrix-related planned maintenance during off-hours or weekends as required.
  • Perform other Citrix-specific duties as assigned.
  • Deliver formal and informal presentations on Citrix architecture, system enhancements, and technology direction.
  • Inform leadership of Citrix system status, tracked issues, and upcoming changes.
  • Perform capacity planning and performance tuning for Citrix infrastructure to ensure alignment with business needs and growth forecasts.
  • Work effectively with Citrix vendors, contractors, and internal staff to coordinate installations, licensing, and provide technical quality assurance oversight.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field desired; or equivalent work experience.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Seven plus years of experience evaluating, designing, building, and supporting a complex messaging environment with multiple platforms, anti-spam, and mail routing systems
    • Seven plus years of experience evaluating, designing, building, and supporting an enterprise data protection environment including archiving hundreds of TBs of data
    • Seven plus years of experience evaluating, designing, building, and supporting large storage platforms containing PBs of data, working with storage protocols (iSCSI, NFS, and CIFS).
    • Five plus years of experience evaluating, designing, building, and supporting a multi-farm SharePoint environment including external domain
    • Five plus years of experience evaluating, designing, building, and supporting virtualization technologies.
  • Seven plus years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.
  • Five plus years of experience supporting two or more server operating systems in a large complex heterogeneous environment.
  • Five plus years of experience building and supporting virtualization technologies.
  • Three plus years of experience using Python or PowerShell programming for system administration.
  • Two plus years’ experience managing and/or integrating XaaS platforms.
  • Advanced skills with server operating systems, such as Microsoft Server, CentOS, Open SUSE, RHEL or SLES.
  • Expert skills administering Microsoft Active Directory, DFS and WINS; experience of multiple OSes authenticating to AD; experience with AD architecture and integration with Linux systems, LDAP, and Kerberos
  • Expert skills administering Linux distribution(s); experience authenticating to AD/LDAP and managing permissions.
  • Significant experience with developing scripts and using other tools for automation (scripting language, such as PowerShell or Python)
  • Working technical knowledge of current software protocols, and Internet standards, including DHCP, DNS, LDAP, NTP, SMTP, SNMP, and SSH
  • Expert Problem Analysis and Solving Skills: expert ability to troubleshoot a complex issue
  • Ability to lead a team and/or work individually, with proven track record of success
  • Competent use of desktop applications.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three plus years of experience using PowerShell specifically for Citrix system administration, automation, and performance tuning.
  • Strong multi-faceted, analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly in diagnosing Citrix session issues, profile delays, and application launch failures.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio for creating Citrix infrastructure diagrams and documentation.
  • Ability to act as a technical mentor and escalation point for Citrix technologies.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $124,488 to $196,747, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.This position may be eligible for relocation assistance. This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
