The Boonyaratanakornkit Laboratory is recruiting a work-study Lab Aide to assist with basic laboratory maintenance.  Previous laboratory experience is not required but would be preferable.  Work schedule cannot exceed 19 hours per week.

 

This is a work-study opening. Work-study is a college / university program that enables part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, affording them assistance with educational expenses. Applicants eligible to apply need to have the following:

  • Currently on or will be eligible for off-campus work-study during the upcoming academic school year.
  • You will be required to submit Financial Aid documentation confirming work study eligibility for off-campus work prior to interview.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic support to the laboratory
  • Stock lab products and keep accurate inventory of lab supplies
  • Autoclave and remove biohazardous waste
  • Sterilize reagents and equipment
  • Prepare reagents
  • Perform general lab maintenance/upkeep
  • Assist with set-up of experiments and work with biohazardous materials, including respiratory syncytial virus and other respiratory viruses
  • Assist with animal colony maintenance (optional)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent with interest in the sciences
  • Off-Campus Work Study authorization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in college, preferably in their freshman or sophomore year
  • Prior lab or research experience, including through coursework, volunteering, work, or other extracurricular activities
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and databases is highly desirable
  • Accuracy and attention to detail and clear communication are essential, including via electronic communication (email and Microsoft Teams)
  • Honest, ethical, respectful, and responsive to feedback
  • Punctuality and dependability are essential, including the ability to have a consistent and reliable schedule of being present in the lab at least 2-3 times per week.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $29.54 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
