Fred Hutch Cancer Center is seeking an experienced and visionary Associate Vice President, Clinical Solutions to lead the development, implementation, and management of all clinical IT solutions across the organization. The AVP will oversee the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of clinical systems that support Fred Hutch’s patient care, clinical research, and treatment operations. This is a critical leadership position that will require a deep understanding of healthcare IT, strong strategic leadership, and the ability to manage cross-functional teams to drive impactful clinical technology solutions. 

 

The AVP will work closely with the CIO, clinical leaders, and IT teams to ensure that clinical IT systems and solutions align with the strategic goals of Fred Hutch, improve the quality of patient care, and support innovative clinical research efforts. 

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Oversight

  • Provide executive leadership for all clinical IT solutions, including clinical applications, electronic health records (EHR), clinical research systems, and other critical clinical platforms.
  • Partner with clinical leadership, including physicians, nurses, and clinical researchers, to understand the evolving needs of clinical operations and ensure IT solutions align with these needs.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive clinical IT strategy to support Fred Hutch's mission, ensuring seamless integration of technology across clinical and research environments.

Clinical IT Solution Development and Integration

  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and continuous optimization of clinical IT systems, ensuring they are fully integrated with the broader IT infrastructure and align with organizational priorities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of clinical information systems that enhance operational efficiency, patient care, and clinical outcomes.
  • Ensure the integration of clinical IT systems with research IT systems to enable efficient data exchange and support translational research.

Initiative Leadership and Execution

  • Sponsor and guide cross-functional teams to design, plan, and implement large-scale clinical IT initiatives and technology transformations.
  • Oversee the full life-cycle of clinical IT projects, from requirements gathering to design, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Ensure that all clinical IT projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Clinical IT Governance and Compliance

  • Establish and enforce governance processes for clinical IT solutions to ensure they meet industry standards, legal, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FDA regulations).
  • Ensure the security, privacy, and confidentiality of patient data by working closely with IT security teams to implement and monitor necessary safeguards.
  • Ensure that clinical IT systems are compliant with relevant healthcare standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, and other standards for interoperability).

Collaboration with Clinical and Research Teams

  • Collaborate closely with clinical leaders, research teams, and operational units to ensure clinical IT solutions meet their needs and improve both clinical workflows and research capabilities.
  • Facilitate communication between clinical stakeholders and IT teams to ensure alignment on project goals, timelines, and expected outcomes.
  • Act as a strategic partner in helping Fred Hutch leverage IT to enhance clinical innovation and improve patient care.

Clinical IT Operations and Continuous Improvement

  • Provide oversight for the ongoing operations and optimization of clinical IT systems, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Work with IT operations teams to troubleshoot, resolve issues, and ensure minimal disruption to clinical services.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and best practices to improve the functionality and effectiveness of clinical IT solutions.

Team Development and Mentorship

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of clinical IT professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members, ensuring they are equipped to meet the evolving needs of clinical IT solutions.
  • Encourage a customer-centric approach to IT support and solutions, ensuring the clinical teams receive the highest quality service.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the budget for clinical IT solutions, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Lead resource planning efforts, ensuring that clinical IT projects and operations are adequately staffed and supported.

Vendor and Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and external stakeholders who provide clinical IT solutions, ensuring effective contract negotiation, service delivery, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Ensure the IT department stays up to date with the latest advancements in clinical IT technology and evaluates new solutions that can improve clinical care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in IT leadership roles, with at least 5 years focused on clinical IT solutions in a healthcare or research environment.
  • Proven experience in managing Epic clinical IT system, clinical decision support systems, and understanding of clinical research platforms.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare workflows, patient care operations, and clinical research processes.
  • Experience leading large-scale IT projects in a clinical or healthcare setting, with a track record of successful implementation.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FDA, and other clinical standards) and IT governance in a clinical environment

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree
  • Clinical/Nursing education strongly preferred.
  • Strong strategic leadership and the ability to drive change across the organization. 
  • Expertise in managing ERP systems and business application portfolios, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation. 
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to oversee complex, multi-phase projects. 
  • Knowledge of business process analysis and improvement, with the ability to leverage IT solutions to enhance operational efficiency. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with business stakeholders and IT teams. 
  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, and resources for large-scale IT initiatives. 
  • Visionary and results-oriented leader with the ability to align technology initiatives with organizational priorities. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on delivering solutions that drive business value. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence key stakeholders across the organization. 

The annual base salary range for this position is from $209,144.00 to $367,764.80 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  This position may be eligible for relocation assistance. This position may be eligible for sign on bonus.
