The Clinical Research Technologist I performs a variety of hematological, microbiologic, immunologic, chemical and other tests related to diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment follow-up of disease or uses similar techniques to monitor study participants.  Involves operating analytical instruments; recovering, compiling, and verifying the accuracy of clinical data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs, and summaries.

Responsibilities

Works under the direction of Supervisor or higher-level laboratory personnel.  Uses limited judgment and discretion in carrying out procedures. 

 

Job Duties

  • Perform standardized clinical/diagnostic tests at bench level.
  • Interpret and report on test results.
  • Log in, record, process, and track clinical specimens.
  • Prepare specimens for long term storage by methods such as cryopreservation, fixed slides.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks.
  • Perform documented protocols and assays.
  • Maintain laboratory records, compute data, and enter onto computer database.
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Order and maintain appropriate level of lab supplies.
  • May supervise work-study students.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Molecular Oncology Specific Duties

  • Maintain consistently high-performance standards and quality of work.
  • Adheres to internal SOPs and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • May participate in regulatory inspections, third party client audits as assigned including monitoring and implementing corrective action activities.
  • Is involved in document control system, including maintenance of internal procedures, and ensuring that document change requests and biennial reviews of documents are facilitated and implemented within a timely manner.
  • Perform molecular clinical testing in a compliance with state and federal standards and regulations (DOH,CLIA,CAP). Includes sample processing, extracting nucleic acid, RT-PCR/PCR and target detection. Both moderate and high complexity testing involved.
  • Basic understanding of next generation sequencing technology.
  • Knowledge of lab safety and sterile techniques.
  • Should be willing to work on weekends.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in field of Laboratory Science or equivalent.
  • Basic laboratory skills and scientific knowledge in the area of study.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One-year experience as a Laboratory Tech I or equivalent.
  • Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT).
  • Proficient Molecular laboratory skills and strong scientific knowledge in study.
  • Must be detailed oriented with ability to maintain accurate digital and paper records.
  • Proficiency in MS office applications is essential.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are required as are excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $25.22 to $35.90 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
