The Boeckh lab, a busy, diverse, applied clinical research lab, is seeking a Research Technician to participate in our work studying humoral as well as cellular innate and adaptive immune responses to viral infection, with a focus on herpesvirus and respiratory virus infections, including COVID-19. The candidate will also help operate the Infectious Disease Sciences Biospecimen Repository, a valuable resource that includes more than 300,000 biospecimens spread across 20+ freezers that have been collected over a 40-year period.

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular techniques for assessing immune function, including phage immunoprecipitation
  • Carry out cell culture and cellular neutralizing antibody assays
  • High throughput multiparameter flow cytometry, including carrying out experiments, running samples on flow cytometers, and analyzing data
  • Perform Elispot immune assays
  • Summarize and present data at lab meetings and for publications
  • Process research samples, including blood and respiratory tract swabs/washes
  • Assist with biospecimen repository functions, including sample inventory, movement and aliquoting
  • Perform ordering, reagent prep, equipment maintenance and other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study.
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous hands-on laboratory experience. Lab experience (honors thesis, internship in a laboratory) obtained during undergraduate studies will be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with flow cytometry, cell culture or molecular biology.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Superior organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation for experiments and quality control.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work efficiently, be adaptable, and be highly self-motivated.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)) Experience with FACSDiva, FlowJo and GraphPad Prism. Familiarity with R or Python.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.21 to $31.61 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
