The Prevention Center (PC) is seeking a Human Nutrition Lab Manager  to manage administrative, operational and nutrition science activities in the Human Nutrition Lab in support of PC client research study projects or programs.  This position is a part-time (30 hours per week) onsite position at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. 

 

The Prevention Center provides staffing and implementation support to investigators across the Fred Hutch, University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s Cancer Consortium. We work with a variety of dynamic, mission-oriented research teams, with wide-ranging study questions. Studies can be focused on nutrition, exercise, and quality-of-life interventions for those living with cancer, other chronic diseases, as well as the community.  Faculty from the Fred Hutch’s Public Health Sciences, Clinical Research, and Vaccine and Infectious Disease Divisions regularly collaborate with the Prevention Center in the conduct of research.  Under supervision of the Prevention Center Director(s) and in concert with the Prevention Center Administrative Manager, the Human Nutrition Lab manager is responsible for the operations, client services and financial management of the Prevention Center Human Nutrition Lab.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews with prospective clients of the HNL to review protocols and provide cost estimates for controlled feeding and other nutrition study services.
  • Develop and administer policies and procedures related to HNL operations and administration. Develop protocol specific procedures necessary for each research client intervention to include:
    • Development of study diets, menus, meal production, organization materials, and production flow.
    • Implementation of the study plan; diet design, menu content, nutritional components to be evaluated, assuring the plan meets the scientific goals of the client.
    • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of feeding studies in HNL including staffing, food procurement, inventory, meal packaging, returned meal weight back measurement, daily and weekly production tasks, and meal service as needed.
    • Serve as research dietitian and interventionist in projects requiring behavioral nutrition support.
    • Coordinate and monitor study data entry and data QA for controlled feeding or behavioral nutrition studies.
  • Maintain open communication with research coordinators and investigators to provide and accept feedback and status updates.
  • Supervise HNL staff to include evaluation and review of performance, assessing workload and resource capacity and onboarding and offboarding of Human Nutrition Lab staff. Plan and conduct regular team meetings to keep.
  • Maintain open communication with PC Administrative Manager to assure the coordination of resource services and representation of the HNL activities in Prevention Center This includes contributing to the annual fiscal report and budget process as it relates to the HNL.
  • Track and maintain HNL equipment and facility function, including assisting with schedule of annual preventive maintenance or equipment repairs and updates as needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered dietitian and master’s degree in nutrition or the equivalent.
  • Experience with coordination of nutrition studies in a research setting.
  • Experience in implementing diet or physical activity modification protocols.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience using ProNutra or other nutrition software desired.
  • Preference to candidates with prior research and/or food service experience.
  • 3+ years supervisory and budgeting experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and manage changing priorities with excellent attention to details.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Solutions-oriented and a creative problem solver.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $33.40 to $50.09 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
