The Preclinical Imaging Technician is responsible for supporting the Preclinical Imaging needs of researchers and the PCI core at Fred Hutch. The PCI Technician will operate preclinical imaging equipment (including Ultrasound, MRI, microCT, IVIS and Lago imaging equipment) and provide rodent imaging services to Fred Hutch investigators.  This position will be expected to operate specialized equipment and perform routine maintenance and calibration of same equipment. 

 This is an entry level position within the resource with substantial room for growth.   ​​

Responsibilities

PRIMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Research Support:
    • Perform imaging studies across most PCI modalities including acquisition of images, and compilation of data for investigators.
    • This further includes proficiency in related procedures including (but not limited to) animal preparation, anesthesia and monitoring, and routine injections.
    • Coordinate and support transportation of animals across facilities for imaging related research.
    • Opportunity to learn additional technical skills as new projects are developed.
    • Use of Microsoft Office products, mobile devices, and scheduling databases to support these projects.
  • ​​Equipment Oversight:
    • Coordinate and complete maintenance on imaging equipment used in preclinical imaging core such as imaging stereotaxic systems, chillers, and microscopes. 
    • Assist in supply management and preparation. 
  • ​Training and Education:
    • Understand team SOPs, training materials, and guidelines for investigator use.
  • ​Regulatory and Compliance: 
    • Assure that all work done is in accordance with an IACUC approved protocol. ​
  • Other duties as assigned.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Level of autonomy:
    • Under direct supervision of the PCI Core Manager with daily or weekly check ins with SR Core Specialists/Manager/Director(s).
    • This position has no responsibility for supervision of others.
    • There is moderate oversight and training from the resource specialist(s) and manager.
  • Financial responsibility: None

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in area of science, engineering, zoology or related field; or certification such ALAT or higher showing competency and understanding with basic rodent procedures.  
  • Comfort working with rodent species
  • Maintenance of a valid Washington State Driver’s license and a good driving record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • .5 years’ experience with rodent handling
  • ALAT certification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar productivity software

The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.21 to $31.61 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
