The Li research group (https://research.fredhutch.org/haolong-li/en.html) at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center has an opening for a Research Technician I for a scientist interested in contributing to efforts to develop new treatments for advanced cancer. The Li group is embedded within a highly collaborative research environment in the Prostate cancer program, which is comprised of scientists with a diverse range of skills and expertise. The successful applicant will apply functional genomics, including CRISPR screen approaches (CRISPRi/a and single-cell Perturb-seq), to systematically identify novel targets and understand resistance mechanisms. There is ample opportunity to learn new skills and contribute to research projects.

 

Our research team is looking for an outstanding Research Technician with a strong interest in cancer biology, immunology, and cutting-edge CRISPR technologies. The technician will perform both standard and investigative laboratory work. Responsibilities include molecular biology techniques, cell culturing, flow cytometry, CRISPR gene editing, and tumor xenograft studies in mice. Additional duties involve managing mouse colonies, conducting pharmacologic experiments, and assisting with lab maintenance and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology experiments, including cloning, DNA/RNA isolation, protein expression analysis, and preparing next-generation sequencing libraries.
  • Culture cancer cell lines, immune effector cells, and cancer organoids. Conduct flow cytometry and immunofluorescence.
  • Execute knock-down experiments using sh and CRISPR-based techniques. Perform gene transfer studies using lentiviral infection.
  • Perform mouse procedures such as tumor xenografting, IV/IC/IP injections, drug/reagent administration, and imaging (IVIS and ultrasound).
  • Conduct xenograft studies and pharmacologic experiments in mice, including using immunotherapies like CAR immune effector cells and performing immunohistochemistry.
  • Manage mouse colonies, including breeding, weaning, tagging, genotyping, and recording data for tracking.
  • Assist with lab maintenance duties, stocking reagents, attending lab meetings, and presenting results.

Qualifications

MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.
  • Prior intern experience working in a research laboratory.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with mouse experiments such as xenografts and/or husbandry.
  • Experience with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, cell culture, gene transfer studies, and/or managing a mouse colony.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team with outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, fast learner, critical thinker, superior organization, and enthusiastic about science.
  • Independent research experience.
  • Preference for the position may be given to applicants interested in pursuing a biomedical sciences PhD or MD/PhD.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.21 to $31.61 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
