A Research Technician III position is available in Dr. Nasa Sinnott-Armstrong's lab. This position will be responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries. Supervises others in these activities.

Responsibilities

Works independently under the guidance of and in conjunction with the Principal Investigator in accomplishing the goals of the laboratory.

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines.
  • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
  • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays.
  • Interpret and report on experimental results.
  • Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed.
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
  • Identify methodological problems in research protocol and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.
  • Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data.
  • Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
  • May lead or supervise other laboratory personnel, including work-study students, and be responsible for the daily operation of the laboratory.
  • Collaborate with primary investigator, and assist in designing experiments; examine proposals to determine projects and methodologies best suited to research objectives and the overall goals of the laboratory.
  • Summarize and write for publication or presentation the results of research projects, often as co-author or author. Edit and write reports of research.
  • Consult with the Principal Investigator and others in the scientific community on problems and related projects.
  • Determine the most suitable methods to be used in research; determine appropriate experimental controls.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Senior level position requiring extensive experience in a laboratory.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in a related scientific field.
  • 6+ years of experience in a laboratory. 
  • Experience culturing bacteria, and especially anaerobic bacteria; with protein expression, especially in vitro protein expression; with molecular biology, particularly digital PCR and qPCR assay design; and with automated liquid handling 
  • Experience with cell sorting
  • Investment in community-led research efforts and experience working in community will be given preference.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $67,728 to $99,237, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
