This role will:

  • Manage nutrition monitoring, support and education of all Fred Hutch clinic patient populations.
  • Coordinate and implement patient care monitoring and assessment, medical nutrition therapy management, and patient/professional education.

Responsibilities

  • Screen and assess the nutritional status and requirements of all Hematopoietic Cell Transplant (HCT) patients on admission and at designated intervals thereafter according to HCT nutrition care criteria, nutrition risk determination, and medical referral.
  • As determined following admission screening and identification of nutrition risk, provide nutrition assessment and counseling for General Oncology patients. Integrate anthropometric measurements, laboratory data, medications, medical history, clinical status and other pertinent into the medical nutrition plan.
  • Closely coordinate care with the patient's oncology providers and, when appropriate, other disciplines.
  • Collaborates with Fred Hutch partner institutions to ensure continuity of care across systems.
  • Document medical nutrition care in the medical record according to best practice standards.
  • Manage all medical nutrition therapy and nutrition support practices including the coordination of enteral and parenteral feeding practice.
  • Provide education to patients and caregivers through individual counseling and group education appropriate to the age of patients served.  Develop appropriate patient materials.
  • Maintain written and verbal communications with the interdisciplinary medical team regarding patients per department standards. Meet regulatory and standard practice requirements (The Joint Commission, Department of Health, etc.)
  • Attend scheduled HCT and General Oncology clinic team rounds, case conferences, and patient care meetings.
  • Provide practice-specific education to professional and clinical staff, graduate students, and the lay public through training programs, lectures and seminars
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of and nutrition data collection for Fred Hutch/UWMC/SCH research protocols.  Participate in collaborative research projects as indicated.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 4-year college degree in nutrition or related field
  • 1 year experience with counseling individuals and families required. Experience working with oncology patients and family members/significant others and working effectively with multidisciplinary teams is desired.
  • Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Washington State Certified Dietitian (CD).
  • Competency in areas of physiology and metabolism, total parenteral and enteral nutrition support and application, medical nutrition therapy, and oncology nutrition management and patient education.
  • Demonstrates behaviors that are consistent with Fred Hutch's Mission and Values.
  • Follows organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently to perform job duties and refers appropriate questions and/or decisions to their supervisor.
  • Establishes and adjusts priorities based on patient acuity and changing clinical situations.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and assignments in order to meet the needs of the department.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing and stressful situations including balancing the need for quality of work with the need to respond to workload.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Displays excellent customer service and relations skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in clinical nutrition
  • Certified as Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO)
  • Clinical Nutrition Master's Degree
  • Background in research
  • Ability to be proactive, use strategic thinking and sound judgment to accomplish tasks.
  • Improves productivity through proper time management.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $38.41 to $57.61, which includes the per diem differential, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
