Responsibilities

The Infectious Diseases Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (100% FTE) provides care for oncology patients in the outpatient and inpatient settings under the supervision of the Infectious Diseases (ID) attending physician, participates in the outpatient parenteral/oral antibiotic therapy program, and antimicrobial stewardship program. They will be a member of the ID consult service that sees Fred Hutch patients both at the outpatient ambulatory facility and the University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake (UWMC-Montlake). This provider will work with four other APPs. Primary responsibilities include initial evaluation, physical examinations, development of a treatment plan, consult notes, progress notes, and ongoing follow-up of patients on whom an infectious disease consult has been requested. A formal telemedicine program and national and international consultation service is being developed that this position will support. The inpatient service is shared between the APPs and the ID fellow including coverage of rotating weekends. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide advice and consultation to Fred Hutch physicians, APPs, and staff regarding appropriate use of antimicrobial agents, use of prophylaxis for infectious disease exposures, and vaccinations for patients. .
  • Provide phone or telemedicine consults for long term follow-up (LTFU) patients with ID attending.
  • Provide inpatient weekend coverage as needed.
  • Coordinate/manage the outpatient parenteral/oral antibiotic therapy program and antimicrobial stewardship program with the ID physician, including communication with internal and external pharmacies and infusion services.
  • Perform appropriate physical examinations for clinical research trials related to immunocompromised patient population.
  • Attend microbiology rounds at the UWMC-Montlake, Fred Hutch ID clinical care conference, and radiology rounds
  • Recruit eligible patients for infectious disease research protocols and assist in compassionate use protocols as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program and be able to practice in the state of Washington (licensed).
  • Have National Certification as appropriate for profession
  • Must be licensed for schedule II drug authority.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills are essential (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Must be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Must enjoy long-term relationships with patients undergoing intense therapy.
  • Oncology, BMT, cellular therapy or ID experience preferred.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $120,868.80 to $191,027.20 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
