The Tax & Regulatory Assistant Manager position leads an accounting sub-team responsible for over 100 entity-level tax filings ranging from routing local filings to IRS Form 990.  Will work with a range of leaders to analyze, develop, and implement efficient tax policies that support Fred Hutch’s tax reporting obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary contact for tax authorities, responding to information requests and coordinate team response to audits.
  • Communicate, educate and present tax topics to internal audiences including senior management and board of trustees, as appropriate
  • Drive entity-level tax strategy leveraging data, external advisors and direct research
  • Access, analyze and influence financial and operational data to the benefit of efficient tax operations
  • Model potential tax law changes and advise senior leadership on impact and implementation
  • Operationalize preparation, execution and filing of 50+ tax returns and regulatory filings including or pertaining to IRS Form 990/990-T, Federal excise taxes, B&O tax, state employer registrations, charitable solicitations, property tax exemptions, insurance reporting and more
  • Work closely with the community benefit manager to establish policies and practices for the community benefit assessment and report.
  • Ensure compliance with Section 501(r) and perform regular self-audits
  • Act as primary contact for tax authorities, responding to information requests and coordinate team response to audits
  • Sponsor initiatives that improve tax operations, data, and efficiency.
  • Manage internal meetings by creating agendas with clear objectives/roles/time allocations, facilitating the call/meeting, taking notes of decisions, and action items.
  • Support month-end close and audit process pertaining to tax and regulatory topics.
  • Hire, manage and develop talented professionals.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years direct experience with tax and regulatory topics.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and successfully achieve objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams and Outlook 
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, communication, meeting facilitation, analytical, judgment and supervisory skills; capability to work effectively with team, partners and senior management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Knowledge of state and local tax environment.
  • Experience within finance healthcare, research, or non-profit organizations.
  • Licensed CPA, MS tax, JD/LLM or EA.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $93,101 to $139,630, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
