The Medical Assistant (MA) Manager is directly responsible for supervision of MAs and MA supervisors (support staff supervisors). They are integral in facilitating efficient patient flow, and ensuring appropriate documentation of clinic activities, such as patient medication lists in EPIC. The manager develops and maintains communication with providers, nursing staff, and clinical operations leaders regarding: MA staffing, room assignments, patient flow, preparation for clinics, staffing for procedures and stocking of clinic rooms. The manager oversees the administrative functions including day to day operations, participates in budget activities, human resources management, and quality assurance activities.

 

About the General Oncology Unit

Our general oncology nursing and medical assistant teams provide expert, specialized care for patients receiving assessment and treatment in a wide range of specialty areas, including women’s health, sarcoma, GI, THN, GU, ENT, renal melanoma, skin, endocrine, surgical and Phase 1 Clinics. Working collaboratively, team members in this unit care for both medical and surgical oncology patients, while also coordinating care and supporting patients’ families. 

Responsibilities

  • Represents MA interests in clinic planning, budgeting, and projects.
  • Functions as a clinical role model for MAs by staying current on clinical practice issues and with clinical skills.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing customer complaints, concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through
  • Participates in the analysis of exam room resource utilization and works to maximize operational efficiency
  • Develops standard work for MA roles and the rooming process
  • Designs, conducts, analyzes, and takes appropriate action on internal quality assurance audits
  • Works with patient access leadership on proactive management of scheduling processes
  • Ensure department is staffed appropriately and supervise MA staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, ensuring training and development, handling disciplinary action, layoff and termination issues
  • Support and implements specific customer service, financial goals & objectives and quality initiatives consistent with SCCA's strategic plan and goals.
  • Prepares and monitors the operating budget. Analyzes financial impact of internal changes and implements clinically sound cost-efficiencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education that enables obtainment of Medical Assistant Certification in the State of Washington
  • Minimum of 2 years as a Medical Assistant preferably in an ambulatory oncology clinic or the equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably supervising medical assistants
  • Currently is a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice
  • Current Surgical Technologist Registration in the State of Washington State and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • Willingness to participate in process improvement initiative
  • Works well with team members toward a common purpose; reinforces the efforts and goals of the work group; supports the team's decisions regardless of individual viewpoint.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to emergencies or disasters per clinic protocol
  • Proficient in email and word processing systems
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, complex healthcare environment
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrates initiative as evidenced by advancing technical skills, sharing knowledge with others and taking on more responsibility
  • Demonstrated career progression for betterment of self and/or the clinic
  • Ability to provide constructive and effective feedback on performance to staff
  • Demonstrates the ability to conduct discussions of a sensitive nature with staff.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the health care field, business, or health care management

The annual base salary range for this position is from $72,945.60 to $109,408.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
