A Research Technician II position is available to work in the Collisson Lab in the Human Biology Division to focus on lung or pancreatic cancer using a combination of genetically engineered mouse models, cell lines, and clinically derived samples. The ideal candidate will be able to independently develop, guide, and complete research projects.

Responsibilities

The Research Technician II will be responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data, performing calculations, and preparing charts, graphs and summaries. The lab uses standard molecular biology techniques and tissue culture as well as mouse models.

 

Job Duties:

  • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines
  • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays
  • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays
  • Interpret and report on experimental results
  • Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies
  • May supervise work-study students
  • Participate in lab meetings and journal clubs
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience 
  • Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is usually necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Strong ability to think rationally, problem solve and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Excellent attention to details and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position, as are good communication and organizational skills.
  • The candidate must be self-motivated, able to multitask and to work within a very collaborative environment.

Preferred:

  • Highly proficient in a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques, and have strong fundamental knowledge of cancer genetics and epigenetics
  • Molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, and protein expression analysis
  • Experience performing gene transfer studies using lentiviral infection of human cell cultures
  • Computational processing of RNA and DNA sequencing files
  • Experience primary and established immortalized cell cultures
  • Experience establishing and maintaining mouse colonies

The hourly pay range for this position is from $25.71 to $36.60 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
