The Applications Architect is responsible for promoting the understanding, integration, and innovation of clinical and business applications/modules to improve the provider, business operations, clinical staff and patient experience. This role translates user requirements into system specifications, directing design and establishes core functionality necessary to support clinical and operational workflows and end user adoption. Develops approaches and plans for the evolution of clinical and business applications to ensure the integrity, stability, and scalability of the software solution in all pre-production and production environments. Closely collaborates and partners with IT leaders, medical staff, clinical operations as well as partner organizations and vendor support, to evaluate current state build, understands future state options with impact analysis to make recommendations based on system health, best practices and application usability.

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, participates, and collaborates on the design, testing, implementation, and support of clinical and business applications.
  • Lead project teams and workgroups to create proper documentation, and obtain required institutional approvals, utilizing a strong understanding of clinical workflow, financial concepts, operational processes, and continuous improvement, to identify solutions and present recommendations.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and advocate for a safe, standardized and efficient system, promoting quality, regulatory readiness, research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Combines knowledge of the system and change management concepts to effectively address system issues and promote safe, effective, and efficient use of health IT.
  • Collect, analyze, and present data to support innovative recommendations to resolve simple and complex problems.
  • Handle ad-hoc questions requiring architects knowledge and resolve assigned support incident tickets.
  • Conducts periodic system quality reviews to ensure technical architecture and design is consistent with business needs and meets criteria for system usability and adoption.
  • Oversees systems architecture and ensures that systems communicate properly and efficiently, and that interfaces transmit required data to identified essential services.
  • Works in partnership with other technical leads/architects to ensure that solutions are complete, integrated, and in alignment with the desired system/architectural roadmap.
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency of all relevant applications, modules and feature sets.
  • Analyzes existing solutions, application release notes and system architectures to proactively identify opportunities for new and better solutions.
  • Research vendor documentation and user channels to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Serves as a liaison to vendor support service groups and vendor technical support to solve problems, communicate gaps, or possible enhancements to the system.
  • Participates on appropriate committees and workgroups as the acting application resource, providing consultation in area of expertise and quickly escalating issues requiring leadership approval as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an application analyst or similar discipline. Experience in environment management and change control processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams in the development and support of applications, and implementing production systems within Fred Hutch and across the adult oncology program.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
  • Extensive expertise with Data Courier (if assigned to Epic).
  • A high level of analytical skills with attention to detail as well as capable to look at the bigger picture.
  • Ability to self-organize, self-motivate, and self-manage a variety of projects.
  • Build certifications and/or application proficiency to support assigned portfolio.
  • Knowledge of patient care operations in outpatient or acute care.
  • Proficient with Epic User Web, Epic Galaxy and Sherlock, etc.
  • Proficient in use of standard office computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office), equipment and clinical information systems.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in project management methodology principles with ability to document key supportive deliverables.
  • Knowledge of oncology patient care services and oncology research setting.
  • Knowledge of TJC, DOH, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Required technical skills including extensive previous experience using reporting and analytics tools, and knowledge of data integration and modeling concepts.
  • Data and reporting certification, competency.
  • Project management certificate.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $117,336 to $185,466 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
