In coordination with the overall efforts of the Environmental Health & Safety Department, the Occupational Health Manager works under the direction of the Director of Environmental Health & Safety and manages the comprehensive program to provide occupational health services to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) workforce members.

Responsibilities

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

 

The Occupational Health Manager follows Fred Hutch Cancer Center policies and procedures in the development and implementation of programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of occupational health team and nurses, oversight of staff training, licenses, certifications and competencies
  • Ensure occupational health services are provided in accordance with Fred Hutch occupational health policies
  • Maintain standardized occupational health nurse work processes by ensuring procedures are written for all workflows and tasks
  • Ensure content related to Occupational Health Program services are maintained with current and relevant information on Fred Hutch CenterNet
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state occupational health and safety regulations that apply to clinical and non-clinical Fred Hutch workforce members
  • Conduct periodic assessments of the occupational health services and programs and assist with design and implementation of tailored occupational health services and programs
  • Oversight of the occupational health database and all related components
  • Supervision and management of occupational health ad hoc projects assigned to occupational health
  • Develop annual fiscal year budget for occupational health program and ensure the costs are maintained without significant variances
  • Collaborate with the EHS Director and Fred Hutch executive leadership team to align occupational health program goals with organization-wide strategic initiatives and goals

JOB DUTIES

  • Oversight of Fred Hutch Cancer Center Occupational Health nurses and the services provided through the various occupational health programs (Accident/Illness Investigations, Animal Use Medical Screening Program, Bloodborne Pathogens and Hepatitis B Vaccination Program, Ergonomic Program, COVID-19 Prevention Program, Annual Influenza Vaccination Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Healthcare Worker Immunization Program, Infection Prevention Collaboration, Lactation Rooms, Post-Exposure Evaluations, Respirator Questionnaires, Safe Patient Handling, Workers Compensation and Claims Management, Occupational Health Staff Training and Development).
  • Manage Fred Hutch worker’s compensation program and assist occupational health nurses with claims management. Manage and refine worker’s compensation claim tracking.  Ensure claims are adjudicated fairly and properly by L & I Claims Manager.  Manage claims to reduce final impact on Fred Hutch while providing appropriate care for the employee.  Communicate with employees and supervisors regarding procedures to be followed during claims process.
  • Oversight of the provision of first aid to Fred Hutch employees who have been injured or developed illness related to their work and ensure triage strategies are followed. Assist occupational health nurses as needed to discern appropriate situations where routine non-industrial related care can be provided. Ability to perform duties as Occupational Health nurse.
  •  Maintain Occupational Health programs that comply with federal and state health and safety regulations (i.e. OSHA, DOSH); revise occupational health programs as needed if gaps are discovered or process improvement measures are needed. Maintain OSHA 300 logs.
  • Keep current on Occupational Health related topics through continuing education opportunities (virtual or in-person), networking with colleagues from affiliate institutions.
  • Manage the maintenance of the Fred Hutch bloodborne pathogen Hepatitis B Vaccination program. Work with Environmental Health and Safety Training Coordinator to develop and deliver bloodborne pathogen training content to Fred Hutch workforce members.
  • Maintain an ongoing Tuberculosis screening program for workforce members working in clinical facilities.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing vaccination and disease history status program for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis among workforce members working in clinical facilities.
  • Manage and maintain an ongoing medical surveillance program for eligible Fred Hutch workforce members to prevent adverse workplace exposures (Animal Use Medical Screening Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Respiratory Protection Program).
  • Manage and maintain an ongoing Lactation Room program for eligible Fred Hutch workforce members who require lactation services in the workplace.
  • Fulfill a leadership role in representing occupational health on institutional committees.
  • Oversight of the Safe Patient Handling program and administrative lead of the Safe Patient Handling committee.

 

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of professional leadership experience.  Licensed RN in the state of Washington required.

 

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Master’s degree.  Two or more years occupational nursing experience and/or Certification as Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) through the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN).

The annual base salary range for this position is from $111,748 to $176,634 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
