Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Network Engineer II reports to the Network Engineering Manager.Under limited supervision, provides intermediate-level assistance with the installation and operational support of the organization’s internal voice and data communication systems, including LANs, WANs, and other Internet, data communications systems and voice systems (including IP, SIP and VoIP). Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation requires evaluation and judgment. Participates in the evaluation of current systems. Assists in the planning and implementation of medium-to-large scale systems/projects. Provides improvements to voice and data system-related processes and standards. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage and document copper and fiber connectivity across the campus and within buildings
  • Design rack and cabinet equipment layout for server rooms and other telecommunications rooms
  • Configure and document basic-to-intermediate level network switch and router changes with minimal direction from higher-level staff
  • Report, manage and troubleshoot issues with appropriate vendor tech-support staff
  • Provide basic-to-intermediate configuration, troubleshooting and problem mitigation on all voice and data network equipment, including wireless and network security equipment
  • Take direction from higher-level staff, leads, and manager
  • Provide guidance to lower-level staff
  • Create and maintain documentation
  • Provide Tier 2 support of internal voice and data communication systems
  • Collaborate with other members of IT staff and end users
  • Follow network engineering best practices
  • Perform other responsibilities as required
  • May require on-call support and after-hours/weekend work

Qualifications

Required 

  • BS in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering or related field desired
  • Minimum of 2-4 years network/telephony engineering experience

Preferred 

  • Cisco CCNA certification (or other equivalent network certification) preferred.
  • Juniper JNCIA Certification 
  • Intermediate knowledge of LAN/WAN, data communications systems, Internet and telecommunication protocols, remote access systems, server and LAN hardware systems, routers, switches, Firewalls, UPS/PDU equipment and wireless network equipment
  • Extensive understanding of data-center installation, cabling and labeling standards, voice and data network maintenance and troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with proper use of basic hand tools
  • Superior analytical abilities and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and/or individually, with proven track record of success
  • Extensive familiarity with software productivity packages such as Excel, Word and Visio
  • Must have very strong communication skills, be detail oriented, self-motivated, and work with minimal supervision.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $86,078 to $129,118 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  

 

This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
