The CIL Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory (CIL) of Fred Hutchison Cancer Center with focus on maintaining high quality and efficient laboratory operations, effective personnel leadership, budget and revenue cycle planning and management, and continuous collaboration between all sections of the laboratory. The Manager reports to the Senior Director of Clinical Laboratories, and works in close collaboration with the CIL Director, Medical Director and Supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operation and administration of the Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory (CIL), including scheduling, routine testing, analysis, reporting and billing of HLA typing and chimerism testing. Coordinate the activities and interactions of the individual CIL units: Coordinator Office, Cell Processing and DNA isolation; HLA intermediate resolution typing; HLA high resolution typing; serological typing/antigen expression, antibody screening, crossmatching and engraftment monitoring.  
  • Consult with CIL Supervisors and staff in the resolution of operational problems encountered in the daily clinical activities of CIL.
  • Responsible for hiring, evaluating performance, counseling and mentoring of laboratory staff in consultation with CIL Director and Supervisors.
  • Work with CIL Supervisors and Director to ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulatory requirements; such as CLIA, Joint Commission and ASHI accreditation.  
  • Develop operating and capital budgets, monitor expenses and revenue, investigate and report budget variances.  Responsible for CIL billing and charge capture. 
  • Work with the CIL Director, Associate Director of Clinical Laboratories, and CIL Supervisors to develop and integrate long term plans for technical development within the budget planning and monitoring process.  
  • Maintain thorough understanding of CIL testing services, departmental purpose and goals.
  • Collaborate with the CIL Director, Associate Director of Clinical Laboratories, CIL Supervisors, Fred Hutch HLA attending staff, the URD program and Fred Hutch administration to develop long range plans for facilitating communication and improving the clinical services provided by the CIL.  
  • Provide operational planning and support to projects within CIL and across Fred Hutch clinical care departments for continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in Biological Science or in Medical Technology.
  • Five years of experience in the HLA or related field is required. Two years of experience at supervisory level, with documentation of increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and mentor staff. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of health care professionals, and assume increasing levels of responsibility.   
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment is a must.
  • CHT or CHS ABHI certification required

 

Preferred:

  • Budget and revenue cycle education and experience are strongly preferred.
  • Management education including leadership training, effective communication, personnel management and conflict resolution.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $106,427.00 to $168,223.00 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
