The Office of Education & Training (OET) is seeking a full-time Program Manager to manage the new Fred Hutch Post-Baccalaureate Scholar Program.

 

The new Fred Hutch Postbaccalaureate Scholar Program is for individuals who recently completed undergraduate degrees and would benefit from research experience and training to successfully matriculate and complete a PhD program. The program will expand Fred Hutch’s pool of researcher talent and provide postbaccalaureate scholars with rigorous research experience and career development training to strengthen the skills needed for a successful research career. It will more broadly support those individuals from groups historically excluded in science by providing training that may have previously been unavailable or limited - helping ensure that scholars are competitive when applying to graduate school.

 

This position will be full-time in-person with the possibility for a hybrid schedule after the program has been established

Responsibilities

Program 

  • Oversee the organization and implementation of this new program, including setting programmatic goals and timetables.
  • Coordinate the application and selection processes.
  • Organize the development of training components, including an annual two-week basic laboratory skills course.
  • Manage the planning and coordination of academic, mentoring, and professional development activities, including journal clubs, monthly mentoring meetings, and the annual symposium.
  • Responsible for recruitment, communications, and advertising activities, including developing promotional materials, editing and maintaining the program webpage and social media, representing the program at recruitment events/fairs, and establishing relationships and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and advise on scholar completion of institutional trainings (both optional and required).
  • Recruit and train volunteers and teaching assistants to support activities.
  • Oversee program requirements, including the development, and annual review of, individual development plans (IDP).

 

Data Management and Administrative Infrastructure  

  • Develop and manage annual operating budget.
  • Partner with HR for scholar hiring and onboarding.
  • Partner with lab administrators to ensure accurate scholar payroll and stipend processing.
  • In partnership with the OET Data Coordinator, develop and maintain a scholar and mentor tracking database, and application portal.
  • Design and execute program outcomes metrics tracking and reporting that include recommendation and inform program leadership.
  • Leverage data to identify opportunities for improvement, especially for recruitment of scholars from groups historically excluded from science and research.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in life science or education related field
  • Minimum of three years post-master's or five years post-bachelor's related experience in a research or educational setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Data management and analysis experience

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • PhD in any area of life sciences or biomedical sciences, or science education

  • Direct experience with STEM programs serving students from systematically marginalized /excluded groups

The annual base salary range for this position is from $75,000 to $85,000 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
