Research Technician II/III Helicobacter pylori

The Salama lab in the Human Biology Division seeks a Research Technician with 2-5 years of experience including lab management and mouse handling, to work with an interactive group of scientists investigating bacterial and host factors that allow the human ulcer causing bacteria, Helicobacter pylori, to establish infections, cause disease, and predispose individuals to developing gastric cancer. The applicant should be well organized, reliable, and motivated to participate in multiple levels of the lab activity.

 

The Research Technician II/III is responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries. The research technician, working under the direction of the Principal Investigator or higher-level laboratory personnel, will use discretion and judgment in carrying out experiments commensurate with the level of training and aptitude in support of the overall research aims of the laboratory.

 

The individual in this position must be willing to handle mice. 

• Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work, including but not limited to microbial culture, tissue cell culture, PCR, molecular biology, RNA and DNA extractions, DNA sequencing and data analysis, mutant screening in a murine model of infections, and protein work.
• Weaning, tagging, and cataloging mouse pups
• Humane euthanasia of mice
• Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines.
• Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
• Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays.
• Interpret and report on experimental results.
• Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed.
• Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
• May supervise work-study students.
• Perform other duties as required.

 

Research Technician II

• At least two years of related post-college experience working in a laboratory (outside of laboratory course work).
• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, and or related field required
• Prior experience working with mice or wiling to be trained in performance of mouse specific procedures
• Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills as mentioned above
• Computer proficiency, including experience with spreadsheets and database software, especially in data analysis, is highly desirable. 
• In vivo murine model work experience
• Primary cell/organoid culture
• Well-organized with strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and perform experiments with little supervision will be required after training.
• Experience working with animals is desirable but not a requirement.
• Manual dexterity and the ability to lift and carry mouse cages and 2-liter bottles of water is necessary for this position.

Research Technician III

• All requirements listed for Research Technician II
• At least three to five years of laboratory experience
• Master's degree in related field preferred

The annual base salary range for the II position is from $51,901 to $73,919 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.   

The annual base salary range for the III position is from $65,484 to $96,349 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
