The Malik lab in the Basic Sciences Division of Fred Hutch is looking to hire a part-time lab aide. We are looking for someone who has experience in basic fruit fly husbandry, and conducting genetic crosses. This could be an ideal position for undergraduates or recent graduates who have completed intro to biology and are looking to gain experience working in a lab, but we encourage anyone qualified in drosophila stock maintenance or animal husbandry to apply. The candidate must be able to work minimum 8 hours per week, but may work up to 16, and must commit to the same schedule weekly or quarterly if still in school. This lab aide will assist researchers with molecular evolution research in fruit fly species. If able to commit to more than 8 hours. Eight hours weekly must be during one fixed day, or spread over two consecutive days, which can work for the lab aide's schedule, as long as the days/hours are the same each week. If able to commit more than 8.0 hours weekly, the additional hours can be flexible but within a M-F time-frame, and flexible between 8am-6pm.


  • Completion of a high school degree is required
  • Must have completed college level coursework in Biology
  • Past experience in genetics and/or fruit fly husbandry is desirable
  • Must have careful attention to detail and a reliable schedule for fixed hours every week
