The Service Line Manager (SLM) is responsible for:

  • Overseeing program development across multiple sites of practice (Fred Hutch, UWMC) and all disciplines within their service line(s).
  • Leading the development of the service line strategic plan, across all performance commitment dimensions (e.g. highest quality care, financial stewardship, research, growth, access, and people).  
  • Operating as the value stream manager by leading collaborations with all service line stakeholders to ensure patients receive the most effective, efficient, safest, and highest value service across the continuum of care.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of critical events that could impact scientific, regulatory, and other oncology practice changes in the industry. 

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and execution of strategic planning for the program and/or disease group(s) while ensuring the plan supports the overall mission and priorities of Fred Hutch as a whole.
  • Knowledge of Service Line Capability: Gain a deep understanding of the current state and capability of the service line as well as those of local, regional, and national competitors.
  • Value Stream Knowledge: Gain a deep knowledge of practice standards, resource needs, and productivity output for the programs or disease groups within the service line.
  • Ensure Competitive Edge: Identify critical gaps or new innovative offerings to assure that the care and services offered, position both the service line and the organization for success.
  • Communication: Responsible for communicating clearly and regularly with Fred Hutch and UWMC Administration, and Service Line Physician Leaders, including keeping them well apprised of service line project statuses and decisions.
  • Analytic & Data: Analyze, interpret, display, and communicate performance metrics to administrative and clinician leaders particularly in the areas of growth, access, operational activity volumes, and research clinical trials enrollments.
  • Highest Value Services: Identify and recommend improvements to patient services, hand offs, and flow for the purposes of achieving the best patient experience and highest possible value (high quality, low cost) to the patient and third-party payers.
  • Referral Management: Implement and monitor the key components of the referral process and referring provider relationships.
  • Outreach Management: Liaison with community, regional and national networks, including professional societies and governmental representation on local, state, and national levels, and vigilance for health care reform activities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Business & Management – Basic understanding of budgets and work unit operations.
  • Critical Thinking – Ability to synthesize a large amount of information and anticipate needs, draw accurate conclusions.
  • Problem Solving – Ability to grasp details of a situation quickly and convert thinking from listening and learning to volunteering and facilitating solutions.
  • Systems Thinking – Ability to understand the flow of a process, how all pieces fit together, and how making a change will impact the entire system.
  • Data Analytics – Ability to understand data and how best to use it to gain a deeper understanding of what is happening or to make decisions.
  • Communication – Ability to communicate verbally, in writing, or through other forms of visualization to effectively convey an idea, concept, or specific information.
  • Facilitation – Ability to increase the likelihood, strength, or effectiveness of the outcome of a diverse group.
  • Presentation Skills – Ability to present complex information in a way that effectively engages administrators and clinical leaders and provides a solid basis for understanding & decisions.
  • Emotional Intelligence – Ability to manage one’s own emotions and the emotions of others and apply them towards thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to work vertically and horizontally with people of various educational, professional, and organizational differences.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – High level of proficiency.

Preferred:

  • Master’s in Business, Health Care, or Public Health Administration
  • Five years of relevant experience in health care setting
  • Financial Analytics – Understanding of basic components of financial statements and financial elements.
  • Payer Contracting – Understanding of the components and elements of contracting.
  • Research Business – Basic understanding of clinical trial startup, budgeting, execution.
  • Oncology Business – Understanding of types of treatments.
  • Tableau Functionality – Understanding of data visualization, analytic capability.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and there are no exceptions for any employee who is patient-facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center facilities. Exceptions exist only for employees whose positions are fully remote, with no required access to campus. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees requiring access to campus must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
