The PIQ Science Writer (Content Specialist) position is responsible for handling high-level correspondence on behalf of the NCI CIS/Office of Communication and Public Liaison. PIQ handles inquiries from various branches of the NIH and NCI, as well as from the White House. Due to the amount of oversight and communication involved in these inquiries, PIQ responsibilities are reserved for members of the PIQ team. This is a half time (.5) position.

 

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the PIQ Science Writer (Content Specialist) are:

  • Researching, editing and responding to emails that are assigned to PIQ, including standard, custom and controlled responses. Process involves extensive communication with PIQ supervisors.
  • Assisting with responding to PIQ phone calls and letters.
  • Working with fellow PIQ team members to maintain and strategize optimal PIQ workflow, such as email templates, KB entries and other PIQ processes (including printing and mailing letters if in the Seattle Metro area).
  • Constantly monitoring and responding to incoming RN and email messages concerning PIQ.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
  • Full-time employee, working 5 days a week strongly preferred.
  • Lead preferred but not required.
  • Clinical Trial Specialist experience strongly desired.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Average QA scores across all handled channels exceeds expectations.
  • Intends to be employed at NCI-CC for minimum of two or more years.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Must show initiative in all work duties. One example of such is demonstrating the ability to independently research and stay informed about cancer-related topics involving the NIH and NCI.
  • Able to receive and organize large amounts of internal email communication.
  • PIQ Science Writers (Content Specialists) receive continuous editing guidance and critique under restrictive deadlines. Applicant must receive feedback and direction graciously.
  • Must be detail-oriented and efficient in both written and oral communication.
  • Applicant must demonstrate consistent and outstanding writing skills, including grammar and spelling.
