Working under supervision and in collaboration with the Comprehensive Center for the Advancement of Scientific Strategies (COMPASS) consortium coordination and data management ream, the Data Analyst will utilize data analysis and reporting skills and tools to create reporting artifacts in support of data quality, reporting and analysis needs.  Reporting products will include, but not limited to, simple reports, complex reports, dashboards, analytic data sets, data visualizations and data mining constructs in support of COMPASS’ study coordination and data management efforts which support discovery and validation of biomarkers through translational and observational clinical trials at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.


  • Gathering and documenting requirements from the study and coordination team and then translating those requirements into an analytics solution that meets each study’s reporting needs.
  • Possess knowledge on a wide range of possible reporting solutions and have sufficient discernment skills to select the most appropriate solution for each set of requirements.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in design and development reviews.
  • Will serve as a liaison with the study coordination and biostatics team around the usage and deployment of reporting solutions and tools.
  • Will understand reporting using SQL relational database stored source data.
  • Develop data and reporting solutions for ad hoc data requests that involves new metrics or are not well defined or are considered advanced data requests
  • Assist the data quality team in tracking down/debugging potential data quality issues.
  • Prepare documentation for deployment purposes and respond to any implementation issues as needed to ensure quality deliverables have been met.



  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in statistics, biostatistics, public health, or other field with data manipulation experience
  • Minimum of 2 years professional database reporting development experience with statistical and data visualization software (SAS, R, Tableau Software, Power BI etc.)
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL
  • Knowledge of basic statistics and experience working with statistical data
  • Sharp analytical abilities, proven design skills and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, self-motivation, and flexibility
  • Capable to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing 
  • Enjoys working in a team environment and has a proven record of positive contributions to the work of the team
  • Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace.


  • Experience gathering and documenting requirements
  • Some past experience with analytical, data management & reporting tools
  • Expertise and knowledge of gathering and documenting analytic/reporting requirements
  • Previous work with and experience utilizing clinical trial data
  • Previous experience in delivering to end users reports and/or extracts to support research, data safety and monitoring requirements and FDA submission.
