The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides care for blood and marrow transplant patients and research participants in the outpatient settings under the supervision of the attending physician or research director. This is a combination clinical and research APP position and the incumbent will spend their time both seeing patients who are research participants on observational and therapeutic trials and caring for current patients. The APP is responsible for the primary care of the patient to include assessment, triage and management of the transplant patient as part of a collaborative transplant team.  Responsibilities include obtaining medical history, performing physical examinations, reviewing and ordering diagnostic studies and prescribing treatments.  APPs perform skin biopsies and other procedures as needed for clinical care and research studies. The research portion of this position is with Dr. Stephanie Lee’s program, studying late complications of transplantation, particularly chronic graft-versus-host disease. The APP will be participate in conducting serial assessments of participants enrolled on observational studies as well as phase I, II and III clinical trials.


The successful candidate must adhere to clinical guidelines, standard operating procedures and research protocols and ensure proper documentation in medical records. They will maintain current knowledge of their clinical specialty and provide outstanding medical care. They will be part of a clinical and research team based in the Long-Term Follow-Up Unit which cares for some of the more than 6,000 transplant survivors who were transplanted at Fred Hutch.


  • Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant training program or appropriate Nurse Practitioner program and be able to practice in the state of Washington (licensed). 
  • Have National Certification as appropriate for profession
  • Must be licensed for schedule II drug authority. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required. 
  • Basic computer skills are essential. 
  • Must be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Human Subjects Research and Good Clinical Practice training.
  • Must enjoy long-term relationships with patients undergoing intense therapy. 
  • Oncology or BMT experience preferred.

This position is patient facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutch clinical facilities. As such, full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment, without exception. Booster doses are strongly recommended but not required.
