A Research Technician II position is available immediately to join the laboratory of Scott N. Furlan in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC), Seattle, WA in the newly refurbished Steam Plant building.  The Fred Hutch Cancer Center provides a highly interactive and supportive environment and it consistently ranks in the top 20 best places to work for postdocs, as surveyed by The Scientist.


  • Receive and distribute specimens to all sections
  • Accession samples for all sections with minimal errors
  • Select appropriate flow cytometry panels for samples
  • Accurately pipette appropriate antibodies
  • Process and accurately pipette samples into their appropriate tubes
  • Run samples on flow cytometers with special attention given to flow rates and other errors of acquisition
  • Review reports and resolve any issues before they are released to the client
  • Process add-ons and all appropriate paperwork and notifications to client
  • Prepare cocktails and other laboratory reagents as well as stock supplies
  • Archive specimens as appropriate
  • Review instrument QA/QC
  • Participate in technologist competency program
  • Participate in laboratory meetings


  • A Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical or biological science is strongly preferred
  • 1 year of clinical laboratory experience required
  • Willing to work Saturdays, with compensated time off and take call during the week
  • Will be required to learn cell-sorting techniques
  • Passion for providing high-quality and industry-leading diagnostic services as well as patient care
  • Deeply committed to continuous learning and staying abreast of scientific advances
  • Works successfully in a team environment
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
