STUDY BACKGROUND:
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) established the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) in 1991 to address the most common causes of death, disability and impaired quality of life in postmenopausal women. The WHI is one of the largest U.S. prevention studies of its kind and it is currently moving into its third extension. The WHI Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC), located at Fred Hutchinson, is responsible for study implementation and coordination of statistical, epidemiologic, nutritional and clinical aspects of the WHI and is responsible for data collection, management and analysis. WHI is seeking an individual with REDCap experience, a working knowledge of data structures and a basic understanding of data management concepts. Fundamental knowledge of coding constructs is a plus. This position is also responsible for supporting the front-end components of the WHI scanning system, built on Scantron scanners and software. The scanning system collects data and archives images from hardcopy participant forms. While experience with OMR and imaging systems is a plus, it is not required. In-depth training on the scanning system will be provided. This is a unique position that offers opportunities to learn and contribute in other areas of a complex data collection and data management environment. The WHI Database and Applications Team supports the core WHI study as well as dozens of ancillary studies. Our mission is to collect and maintain the highest quality data in support of this important research, from application design through the delivery of analytic data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the WHI REDCap platform: Develop and test surveys using REDCap features for validation and skip logic; Load recipient information; Distribute surveys; Monitor and extract delivery failure data; Export survey data; Load survey data into databases using existing scripts.
  • Support the front-end components of the WHI scanning system: Define and test new forms using the Scantron application development module;
  • Troubleshoot scanning issues, including contacting Scantron support for assistance as needed; Install and test Scantron software and scanners; hardware components.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with stakeholders to ensure timely development and implementation of REDCap surveys and Scantron forms.
  • Research and implement enhancements that optimize and streamline applications and processes.
  • Communicates timely updates to end-users and stakeholders.
  • Create accurate documentation in a timely manner.
  • Application user support (approximately 40 users): Installation; Connectivity issues; Monitor the user support email account and route issues to team members.
  • Other responsibilities and tasks as needed to support the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience with data management, data analysis, or other data administration function including collection and distribution.
  • Experience deciphering and organizing large amounts of data.
  • Experience with REDCap including creating and testing surveys, maintaining projects, implementing field-level validation and skip logic.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic data structures and ETL (extract, transform, load) concepts. Experience with a relational database is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Windows 10+ and software installation.
  • Working knowledge of shared network folders, mapped drives and basic command line interfaces.
  • Excellent email, phone and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Attentive to detail and quality of work.
  • Self-starter who naturally takes the initiative to problem solve, learn and improve their skill set.
  • Work efficiently independently and as part of a team.
