The Manager, Proton Therapy Center provides leadership and management for the overall service of the Proton Therapy Center, an $100M dollar cancer treatment facility. Reporting to the Director of Radiation Oncology; the Manager of the Proton Therapy Center plans, manages, and coordinates the development of short- and long-range objectives and is responsible for achieving the Center's financial and non-financial goals.
The Manager of the Proton Therapy Center will lead and execute strategies aligned with SCCA's mission and vision, and is responsible for overall operation and performance of the facility, including program delivery and development, performance management, budget development, and revenue management and enhancement.


Responsibilities include:

  • Leads and manages all functions of the Proton Therapy Center in accordance with the policies established by the SCCA and in compliance with regulatory guidelines
  • Manages the activities of the Center's management team and works with them to develop and deliver short- and long-range objectives, policies and procedures
  • Maintains professional, collegial, and positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Provide leadership in promoting the safe, efficient, economical, and effective utilization of resources to meet the needs of the community through quality proton cancer treatment program
  • Develops and implements operations strategies and tactics to drive a high level of departmental performance
  • Ensures plans are developed and executed for key performance indicators, goals, and metrics including operational efficiency, quality, safety, financial, business development, patient experience, and staff satisfaction and retention
  • Monitors performance to proactively identify and address efficiency issues
  • Provides performance updates to senior leadership and board of directors as requested
  • Encourages and promotes operating in a continuous improvement environment that is data driven and responsive to customer and market needs
  • Responsible for recruitment and development of Proton Center team
  • Manages relationship with IBA, including holding the vendor accountable for operational performance, maintenance, and contract negotiation
  • Partners with UW Department of Radiation Oncology to ensure physics and physician services are delivered in alignment with Professional Services Agreement and meet the highest quality standards of the SCCA


Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in health care administration, business administration, public health, nursing, health information administration, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in a healthcare setting
  • 4+ years of experience in progressive leadership role
  • Radiation oncology experience is required
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and build a consensus
  • Strong patient care orientation focus
  • Competent in operating effectively in an integrated system environment, working in a variety of matrix management relationships
  • Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices
  • Multi-team management experience
  • Ability to set overall strategy and drive process improvement
  • Demonstrated project and budget management skill
  • Broad understanding of fundamental business principles
  • Data driven, analytical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of current healthcare environment/regulations and impact to hospital operation
  • Knowledgeable of all policies and procedures that affect the outcomes of patient care, employee rights and responsibilities

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a closely related field
  • Previous Profit & Loss responsibility
  • Prior proton therapy experience

SCCA has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and there are no exceptions for any employee who is patient-facing and/or requires access to SCCA facilities.

Exceptions exist only for employees whose positions are fully remote, with no required access to campus. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees requiring access to campus must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
