The Database Administration team within Fred Hutch's IT organization hosts and supports databases and data pipelines for scientific and administrative groups. The Database Administrator is responsible for the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of database systems and providing advanced support for databases and data pipelines. This position will report to the Database Administration Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill day-to-day operational, administration, and support tasks associated with database servers, databases, and data pipelines.
  • Participate in the 24x7 on-call support rotation.
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for database systems, databases, and data pipelines.
  • Control and limit server, database, and data pipeline access in compliance with data security policies and best practices.
  • Build, deploy, maintain, and support database servers and databases.
  • Develop, deploy, monitor, and support data pipelines in the Enterprise Job Scheduler.
  • Serve as technical lead for moderately complicated database-related projects.
  • Ensure technical documentation and diagrams remain current and accurate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer/Information Science or Database Management.
  • 3-6 years administering or developing database systems in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration.
  • Proven expertise with SQL and at least one modern scripting language.
  • Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS.
  • Experience developing, troubleshooting, and administering Data Pipelines.
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work, completing daily support responsibilities and project driven tasks in a timely manner.
  • Data Warehouse development or administration experience.
  • Exceptional customer service.
     

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience as Systems Analyst or in Systems Integration, Database Development, or Systems Administration.
  • Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS.
  • Experience working with regulated data and systems.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft administration or development.
  • Experience with Enterprise Job Scheduling software.
