The Technology Associate is responsible for the non-financial agreement process and intake, organization, management, communication, and completion of all incoming and outgoing confidentiality (CDA), material transfer (MTA), data transfer (DUA), collaboration (COL), and various other research agreements in a timely manner.  The associate may also coordinate with and/or assist Technology Managers (TM) in understanding the intellectual property position with particular portfolios to help ensure agreements are consistent and correct.


Non-financial Agreements
The primary responsibility of the associate will be the management of the non-financial agreement process, including drafting, negotiating, and executing contracts.  Typically, the TA will manage the execution of 50 to 80 agreements per month with MTAs and CDAs representing the majority.  This will involve outreach to and constant communications with Fred Hutch faculty members and staff to identify data, information, and materials that are being sent to third parties. 


The TA will also interact with other administrative group members such as the Office of General Counsel, Institutional Review Organization, Clinical Research Services, and others during the negotiation of contracts to determine optimal agreement language, ensuring that all contracts comply with requirements such as Export Compliance (ITAR, EAR, Denied Parties) and Institutional Review Board (IRB).  Protection of Fred Hutch intellectual property will be of highest importance in contract negotiations.  The TA will be responsible for identifying any potential conflicts, including language in past agreements and/or third party IP issues. The work flow will be managed appropriately to ensure timely execution of agreements. The TA will be responsible for Inteum (database) data entry, related to non-financial agreements assigned, and will create / update processes related to agreement management.


Other Business Development Support
The associate is a part of a broader Business Development (BD) team that takes great pride in its teamwork and efficiency. The incumbent will participate in Business Development team meetings and help support the broader team with new ideas to help constantly improve the office.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences or related discipline, or equivalent experience in life sciences industry or in academia working with faculty members
  • Very good attention to detail and follow-up skills – timeliness and documentation are key to success in the position
  • Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills – must manage a docket with 200+ agreements in-work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Two years related experience working with legal agreements in some form
  • Ability to work as a team member, including contributing to projects and meetings
  • Ability to work with others in a respectful, tactful, and timely manner
  • Willingness to compromise to achieve an optimal result consistent with team expectations and business partner needs
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), while recognizing exceptions to the SOPs and using critical thinking skills to make decisions that limit risk and meet business needs

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous experience in technology transfer or business development, or in the pharmaceutical, biotech or legal field, especially working with non-financial agreements.
