The COVID-19 Clinical Research Center (CCRC) Clinical Research Nurse oversees the daily operations and research activities associated with COVID-19 clinical trials. The trials are conducted within a dedicated clinical trials unit at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The research activities include, but are not limited to, the administration of FDA-regulated investigational products to trial participants. The clinical research nurse has oversight of, and performs as needed, medical procedures that require an RN clinical degree in medical practice. The clinical research nurse assists in overseeing the activities of CCRC temporary staff and medical assistant(s) as needed.


  • Oversee the conduct of trial measures, and performing clinic procedures within the RN scope of practice and according to research protocols. This may include such procedures as determining medical fitness of study participants according to their research protocols, limited physical examinations, IV needle placement, IV administration and observation of infused investigational product, blood draw from peripheral sites, and proper documentation of and timing of research-related procedures in source files.
  • Coordinates clinical trial activities with CCRC staff, study team, and investigators to ensure appropriate staffing levels and participant coordination for daily trial activities.
  • Creates a trial implementation plan, a summary of study procedures, and orders as needed for protocol activities occurring in the trial’s unit.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and adherence to research protocols, standard operating procedures, and any protocol deviation documentation. May update concomitant medications and adverse events documentation in research files.


  • Registered Nurse with current Washington State license
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and manage change in priorities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), customer service, collaboration, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment surrounding clinical trials.
  • Minimum one (1) year's experience in clinical practice and FDA-regulated investigational products.

In addition to job duties at Fred Hutch, this position also requires access to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which requires COVID-19 vaccination without exceptions.
