We are seeking an energetic person to work full-time at our Sunnyside office, the Center for Community Health Promotion (CCHP). CCHP houses different projects that are funded through grants to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. The overall goal of our projects is to work with the communities to reduce health disparities in the Yakima Valley. Our health educators provide education on how to prevent and control health problems and common diseases, such as diabetes, cancer and pesticide exposure. They also recruit and interview participants for related research projects.


The Health Educator will drive throughout Yakima, Benton and Franklin Counties conducting various data collection projects, educational workshops and outreach activities/events. Duties include:

  • Lead in-home health education classes at participant’s homes
  • Lead health education classes for small groups at local organizations
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local community organizations to schedule and facilitate local outreach events and activities
  • Staff booths at local events and activities, such as community health fairs and provide information to attendees
  • Recruit participants for research projects according to eligibility criteria
  • Read & complete consent forms & surveys with project participants
  • Facilitate study interventions, which may include educational classes, interviews, and focus groups
  • Complete trainings and refresher courses as required
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Complete other project-specific tasks as assigned
  • Able to work evenings and weekends


  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) with excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English
  • Minimum of a High School degree, or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in a similar position
  • An interest in health issues that exist in the Yakima Valley and Tri-Cities area, such as cancer prevention, diabetes education and pesticide exposure
  • Familiarity with communities in Yakima, Benton and Franklin Counties
  • Familiarity with health and social service resources in Yakima, Benton and Franklin Counties
  • Highly dependable and responsible
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to neatly document information
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Candidate must have a reliable access to transportation to complete job duties
  • Teaching experience preferred
