Overview

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

 

The position of 'Informatics Pharmacist - Beacon' in the IT Division is the subject matter responsible for the design, development, implementation, analysis, support, and maintenance of Oncology Clinical Trials in Epic for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. This position maintains a strong partnership with Pharmacy, Investigational Drug Services Pharmacy, Research Operations, and other integrated applications and teams.  

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Beacon Treatment Plan build and maintenance for Oncology Clinical Trials.
  • Apply Pharmacy expertise to evaluate and assess clinical appropriateness of system design.
  • Work with clinical, research, and operational teams to develop specifications for system design/build.
  • Review and understand system options and make recommendations on usage and best practices.

  • Participate in application testing, troubleshooting, and support of new projects and upgrades.
  • Coordinate among team of Beacon Informatics Pharmacists and Research Informaticists to prioritize and assign work in effort to reduce study start up period. 
  • Align Research system and clinical design with Standard of Care.
  • Adhere to strict change control processes and assess system change impact for Oncology Research.  

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree and licensure in Washington state
  • Pharmacy Informatics Residency Training or equivalent experience in informatics
  • Experience collecting user requirements, translating to system feature enhancements, and requesting enhancements of a system administrator
  • Demonstrated experience in training clinical end-users of various levels of technical savvy
  • Demonstrated experience working with teams in the development and support of applications, and in implementing production systems in a healthcare organization
  • Ability to evaluate user proficiency in application via direct observation
  • Ability to work exceptionally well independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent ability to communicate expectations clearly and succinctly, both in e-mail and
  • Good follow-up skills
  • Ability to use initiative and sound judgment in carrying out responsibilities
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and report on timelines

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prefer Epic certifications in Beacon and Willow
  • Prefer IDS Pharmacy experience
  • Strong understanding of computer terminology and database design basics
  • Strong understanding of software usability criteria and design
  • Knowledge oncology patient care services
  • Knowledge of patient care operations in out-patient or acute care and/or research
  • Knowledge of TJC, DOH, and other regulatory requirements
  • Lean processes or CPI knowledge and exposure

SCCA has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and there are no exceptions for any employee who is patient-facing and/or requires access to SCCA facilities.
