The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP) at Fred Hutch is a full service statistical and data management center focused on HIV prevention research and COVID-19 vaccine development. SCHARP has an annual budget of over $40 million, more than 180 employees and is currently managing over 40 active phase I – III clinical trials in over 150 clinical sites around the world. SCHARP is seeking a Data Project Manager I. The Data Project Manager I will plan, coordinate, schedule, and execute various clinical, technical, and operational projects in support of clinical and laboratory data management and data analytics of assigned SCHARP research studies or projects.


SCHARP Data Project Manager’s responsibilities may include all or some of the following:

  • Assist the departmental leadership in planning and scheduling clinical, technical and operational projects in support of the department and/or SCHARP.
  • Assist SCHARP Program and Portfolio Management with work intake and statement of work development for assigned projects.
  • Develop and maintain tools and processes for timeline and resource tracking and reporting.
  • Plan and coordinate between all stakeholders including but not limited to SCHARP Lab Data Management, SCHARP Clinical Data Management, SCHARP Data Analytics and Program and Portfolio
  • Management regarding study, deliverable, and resource priorities.
  • Plan and coordinate activities and deliverables of the SCHARP Data Analytics teams.
  • Manage multiple projects of varying sizes as assigned Support operational and technology goals.
  • Work with project sponsors and other stakeholders to define assigned project requirements, scope, risks, coordination, and approach.
  • Create and manage project artifacts including charters, change management plans, communication plans, schedules, and risk, issue, and decision logs.
  • Work closely with directors and functional managers to plan resources and/or adjust project timelines in negotiation with stakeholders.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget changes according to defined change control procedures.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the project team, in alignment with SCHARP SDLC where applicable.
  • Organize and facilitate regular status meetings with project teams, preparing and distributing minutes, agendas and other materials as needed.
  • Monitor project execution and progress against milestones and deliverables.
  • Serve as project liaison, representing the project to other departments, affiliated individuals or institutions, and outside organizations as applicable.
  • Lead process improvement efforts as indicated by the department leadership May supervise team support staff when needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.



  • Four year degree or foreign equivalent and three years of project planning, coordination or project management experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent human relations, facilitation and influencing skills to deal effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to synthesize complex issues to move project forward.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.



  • Graduate degree in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • PMP or equivalent degree/certification desired.
  • Experience using project management software (Smartsheet, MS Teams, Jira, etc.).
  • Experience with clinical trials, lab data and assays in a scientific research, life sciences, research data management or data analytics organization.
  • Change management / Lean, Six-sigma, or Agile background.
  • Experience managing or coordinating research studies or software development projects.
