Fred Hutch is looking for an intelligent, hardworking professional to join our Financial Planning & Analysis team. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Corporate Finance and will assist in preparing annual budgets, reporting monthly to internal customers, and performing various financial analyses. Candidates must possess exceptional analytical skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to think outside the box.

 

Work location: This position is not required to be on campus daily. Some travel to our Seattle office will be required for meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze current and past trends of revenue, expenses and capital expenditures and provide solutions/recommendations in response to anticipated/unanticipated fluctuations to help management understand and answer critical business issues and questions. 
  • Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes and effectively accomplish assigned duties/tasks by coordinating work of teammates and other end users
  • Participate in budget planning meetings and analysis of historical trends to prepare budget targets for divisions and departments
  • Assist the Finance department in the monthly business review reporting and year-end summary analysis and trend reporting to senior management
  • Conduct detailed monthly review of budget vs. actual results and investigate and analyze significant variances at a department and project level
  • Perform other financial analysis and “one-off” projects as assigned
  • Support business improvement opportunities
  • Perform quality control checks on new or revised database processes and conduct peer review of analysis by other finance department personnel for accuracy and clarity of presentation
  • Streamline processes and automate business reporting

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least two years of relevant experience including financial planning and analysis and/or budgeting, preferably in a research or not-for-profit environment
  • Intermediate to advanced level Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to formulate recommendations and interpret financial information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate and explore alternative solutions
  • Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects and communicate status of projects to key decision makers on a proactive basis
  • Uses initiative and sound judgment in carrying out responsibilities within the framework of departmental policies and procedures


Preferred qualifications:

  • Research or healthcare finance experience
  • PeopleSoft/Oracle/Hyperion experience
