The Accounting Specialist III The Accounting Specialist III is an integral part of The Hutch Accounting team, which has a wide range of responsibilities relating to all aspects The Hutch’s finances including financial reporting, policy setting, internal and data controls and transaction processing. The team works closely with multiple groups within The Hutch to ensure accurately and timely financial information. The position reports directly to the Accounting-Billing Supervisor 



  • Process and distribute all types of grant, contract and miscellaneous billing
  • Upload invoices into the sponsor’s portals when required
  • Respond to complex internal & external Sponsor/Customer inquiries and requests
  • Resolving complex billing issues, activations, monitor contracts
  • Ability to perform collections, ie send out collection notices, and communicate directly to Sponsors/Customers as needed
  • Work with cash receipt desk to ensure accurate payment application
  • May assist with training and directing other specialists
  • Assist in responding to auditor requests for reporting, documentation, or policies and procedures
  • Assist with ongoing maintenance and configuration of financial systems
  • Actively look for opportunities to improve existing processes
  • Serve as backup to other Accounting Specialists in the department as needed
  • Ad hoc projects as and when required
  • Perform other responsibilities as required

  • Ability to consistently and accurately process transactions.
  • Must have excellent work habits, including organization and timeliness
  • Should have strong interpersonal communication skills and desire to work in team-oriented environments



  • High school diploma or GED required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field, but not required.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years bookkeeping, accounts receivable, cash collection, banking or financial experience
  • Strong technology skills including efficiency with keyboard and mouse as well as experience with desktop applications including MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook
  • Must be willing to develop expertise in FMS PeopleSoft and related queries and standard reports, e.g. invoices, journal entries. Training will be provided

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with federal and non-federal grant and contract billing
  • Familiarity with non-profit institutions
