Under the mentorship of the Project Coordinator and Principal Investigator, the Student Intern will assist with tasks throughout the entire research process, including preparing recruitment materials, helping with data entry and analysis, and performing other varied support functions related to research activities. The work completed for this internship can be counted as credit hours toward the student’s degree completion requirements.


This position will use a hybrid model in which some tasks will be performed in-person as authorized and using all COVID-19 precautions and some of the tasks will be performed remotely using the established infrastructure of collaborative software the Ceballos Studies (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.).


  • Learn how to perform various research functions, including conducting qualitative interviews proofreading research documents (e.g. audiotape transcription, dictation for journal reviews, research budget justifications), performing background literature reviews, manage and track documentation related to recruitment of research participants, and in organizing and synthesizing information related to the research process
  • Assist in developing and compiling documents and materials necessary for recruitment and consenting of research subjects and to help track each project’s progress
  • Help manage and analyze audio and survey data collected from ongoing research projects. This will include verifying the accuracy of research study data, preparing data for computer input, recording data in research database files and data spreadsheets, generating summary statistics of the data, and providing assistance with writing and preparation of main study findings.
  • This internship will provide introductory qualitative and statistical data analysis experience with ATLAS.ti and SPSS
  • This internship will help the student develop strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent customer service skills. It will provide the intern with work experience that requires a high level of attention to detail and organization
  • Research group meetings and professional development trainings continue to occur regularly at Fred Hutch over teleconferencing software. The intern is invited to attend appropriate meetings and trainings to further develop their research experience and professional skills.


Minimum qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student
  • Interest in qualitative research methods and data management


Preferred qualifications

  • Completion of introductory statistics
  • Undergraduate qualitative or quantitative research experience
  • Experience working with indigenous and Native American communities
  • Interest in social determinants of health and anti-racism in research
