The Brent lab is seeking 1 to 2 work study students from the School of Public Health, or a related field, to assist on a small-scale randomized control trial testing the use of Augmented Reality to aid diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2.


Ideal candidates will be available for 19 hours per week and must be eligible for state or federal work study. There will be a combination of work involving remote and in person work at Fred Hutchinson starting Winter Quarter 2021.


Interested candidates should submit a resume together with a cover letter than lays out: who you are, why you find the proposed work of interest, what qualifies you to carry it out, and how said work might contribute to your future goals.


  • Use epidemiological methods design and carry out a small-scale randomized control trial using a cross-over design
  • Create and Manage SOPs and Protocols for various projects
  • Aid in study recruitment and participant scheduling
  • Instruct and observe study participants during in-person data collection sessions
  • Analyze study results using R, STATA, or some alternative data analysis system
  • Present study results through manuscript writing and presentations


  • The ideal candidate would be pursuing a degree in Public Health, Health Informatics, Biology, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or a related field
  • Currently enrolled an undergraduate or master program at a four-year university and be eligible for a work-study program
  • Proficiency in basic research methods, willingness to occasionally assist in general lab maintenance as time permitted (making media, pouring plates, etc.)
  • Flexibility and able to work independently without supervision
  • Possess some basic laboratory skills and knowledge
  • Hiring process will continue until ideal candidates are selected
