The Research Acupuncturist position will be under the direction of Dr. Heather Greenlee, a member of the Public Health Sciences and Clinical Research Divisions and Medical Director of Integrative Medicine Program at the SCCA. Dr. Greenlee’s research program uses both clinical trials and observational studies to examine a broad range of lifestyle modifications (diet, physical activity, weight management) and complementary/integrative therapies for cancer prevention and control, especially in under-resourced and vulnerable populations.

 

The Research Acupuncturist will deliver standardized acupuncture protocols to cancer patients who are participants in clinical trials. The Research Acupuncturist will be trained on the study protocol by research team members. The Research Acupuncturist will perform acupuncture, collect clinical data during the acupuncture treatment sessions, and participate in research team meetings to coordinate acupuncture research activities.  The acupuncture clinic sessions will take place at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Cancer Alliance, and University of Washington Medical Center.  This position requires availability on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Standard hours for this position are 4 hours/week. 

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a standardized acupuncture protocol to cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials 
  • Collect clinical data during the treatment sessions
  • Participate in research team meetings to coordinate research activities as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate/ post-doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM/DAOM) from Accredited Institution
  • Successful completion of an accredited acupuncture graduate degree program
  • Licensed by the NCCAOM
  • 3+ years acupuncture experience, including demonstrated clinical experience with cancer and/or other critically ill populations and appropriate acupuncture techniques utilized for management of symptoms and treatment side effects
  • Must be a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Washington or meet criteria to obtain Washington State license
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong aptitude and enthusiasm for establishing patient rapport, delivery of patient education and explaining acupuncture treatment services
  • Strength in developing, organizing and sustaining written procedures and documentation
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems
  • Self-awareness and a professional demeanor
  • Available for shifts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional clinical degree or certification (RD, LMT, RN, MA, MSW, etc)
  • Training in Chinese herbal medicine
  • Process improvement experience (lean leader, six-sigma, continuous performance improvement, etc.).
  • Ability to navigate organizational complexity within academic, research and/or multi-modal health systems
  • Clinical research experience, including development of clinical trial protocols, interpreting data, and publishing manuscripts
