The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

Working under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Purchasing Technician interacts with  health care providers to perform a variety of specialized purchasing tasks.  Including but not limited to ordering and receiving, maintenance of inventory levels for medications and supplies within the pharmacy as well as other areas of the clinic, including reconcillation for billing purposes. This position works closely with partner organizations and departments within the clinic to ensure that we meet the medication related needs of our patientsThis position will serve as backup for pharmacy technicians as needed for patient care, and be responsible for other duties as assigned.


Expected Start Date:  August 1st


  • Daily ordering and receiving of medications
  • Maintain invoices and pharmacy purchasing records as required by state and federal law
  • Processing of outdates and returns, handling recalled and defective medications and maintaining appropriate documentation
  • Floor stock ordering for clinic areas including monthly billing and invoicing for accounting
  • Functions and duties related to maintaining appropriate inventory levels
  • Participate in purchasing related meetings
  • Train and educate staff on purchasing functions



  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Washington state Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Familiar with the generic names of drugs along with their basic indication.
  • Able to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
  • Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems in accurately and efficiently


  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred
