The Sullivan Laboratory in the Division of Human Biology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center studies the metabolism of cancer cells. We are interested in understanding how cancers alter their cell metabolism to support biomass synthesis and survive stress and in identifying new metabolic targets to suppress tumor growth. We seek an enthusiastic candidate for a role that balances cutting edge research, data analysis for collaborative projects, and lab management. The ability to work in a team as well as taking individual initiative will be essential. This is an ideal position for a recent college graduate who wants additional laboratory/scientific experience before going to graduate or professional school. Funding for this position is for two years with the potential to extend from there.
The technician will work under the direction of Dr. Sullivan and other high-level laboratory personnel to perform experiments, and to support the experiments of others. The candidate’s time will be divided into two parts: ~75% effort conducting cutting edge research in cancer metabolism and ~25% effort for laboratory maintenance and lab management.
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and some lab research experience outside of coursework required. Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills. Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is expected, but applicant will be trained in all of the techniques to be used in this position. Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, mass spectrometry, and some computational skills are pluses. Most importantly, passion for being involved in scientific discovery is essential!
